Electronic and Web Accessibility Webinar Series

ilpdnetICSPS will be delivering a webinar series on electronic and web accessibility.This series will provide valuable
information on how to ensure your electronic resources are accessible to all students and how to judge your compliance with civil rights legislation related to web accessibility.  The series will be delivered in two parts on September 7 and September  21.  We hope you can join us for one or both of these professional development opportunities.  The webinars, their descriptions, and registration information can be found below.


Introduction to Electronic and Web Accessibility: What You Need to Know and How to Self-Assess

Attempting to understand the world of electronic accessibility can be a daunting task as many resources designed to outline legal requirements assume a knowledge of web design or high level of IT skill.  However, with a bit of guidance anyone can learn to identify common barriers for web accessibility and ensure that the electronic resources they produce can be used by users with disabilities.  In this session participants will gain knowledge of the civil rights legislation guiding online accessibility, learn to anticipate the potential accessibility needs of computer users with disabilities, explore resources for determining their own websites’ accessibility, and examine basic elements of accessibility in several forms of common electronic forms of communication.  Specifically, we will discuss high priority web accessibility issues and walk through real examples of accessibly designed material.  At the end of this session you should be able to anticipate, identify, and remove common accessibility barriers.

Creating Accessible Documents and Providing Accessible Online Content.

This webinar will focus specifically on creating electronic documents that are accessible to people with disabilities.  You’ll be amazed by how simple it is to develop documents that are fully accessible by using a bit of forethought and features that are built into common programs like MS Word, MS PowerPoint, and Adobe Acrobat.  We will also examine some more complex accessibility issues faced when posting content to websites or producing webinars or video series.  The goal of this session will be to equip participants with the skills, knowledge, and resources to ensure the electronic media they produce is accessible by all and to raise awareness of accessibility issues so that inadvertent communication barriers are not created.
