Working effectively with participants virtually means can be challenging. Agencies are quickly trying to establish virtual approaches to doing assessments, writing plans, doing training, and placement all the while maintaining a strong relationship with the participant. This session will give you tips and strategies on how to make virtual case management work using motivational interviewing as a platform to develop a strong relationship. Without in-person interaction, case managers and career coaches must determine if a participant is appropriate for individual WIOA services. Suitability for services includes not only eligibility but also the individual’s career goals, the appropriateness of the services available for the participant and the motivation of the participant. Motivation is not easy to ascertain. Staff needs to be well-equipped with tools and strategies to make good judgments.
