Technical Math Webinar – Findings and Request for Technical Assistance

The Illinois Community College Board has contracted with Northern Illinois University to conduct research on technical math and provide technical assistance on effective practices. A sample of Illinois community colleges were interviewed in 2018 to learn about their technical math offerings, successes, and challenges. In an upcoming webinar, Kathleen Almy, Director for Transitional Math, will provide an overview the results including key findings, issues, best practices, and recommendations. Additionally, two math faculty from the Illinois community college system will be sharing the work they have done with technical faculty and administration to improve technical math instruction and offerings on their campuses. These instructors have been contracted to serve as resources for colleges that want to improve their technical math offerings. The contracted faculty will work with colleges as they request which can include calls, Zoom calls, and other additional work as needed to help institutions develop plans of action and execute them. If colleges are interested, contracted faculty will work to incorporate the new, free state-level technical math resources developed to support the PWR Act’s transitional technical math.

If you are interested in learning more about technical math, transitional technical math, or how you can gain assistance to improve your technical math offerings, please join us for this webinar on May 9. More information about the technical assistance, including the timeline and how to apply, will be shared on the webinar.
