Identification and Provision of Services for Special Education Students AA #593 – Region 5

Description:

This Academy, presented by Brandon K. Wright of Miller, Tracy, Braun, Funk & Miller, Ltd., will guide participants through the major topics in special education law, focusing on those issues that are new, those that are prevalent, and those that never-get-old. We know our basic obligations to students with disabilities — but let’s take a deeper look and see how those issues are developing in practice. This year’s Academy will have an additional focus on how courts are handling the Supreme Court’s Endrew F. decision a year after the opinion was handed down. With a practical and fresh approach, this course will use real-life discussions about matters including eligibility and evaluation, procedural compliance, discipline, and Section 504. This academy is a must for special education administrators — particularly as special education becomes an increasing area of liability for school districts. By using case law from around the U.S., filtered through the lens of an experienced special education attorney, participants will walk away with a renewed clarity about the legal obligations of school districts — and the confidence to keep focused on ensuring the district’s actions legal, efficient, and effective!
